Cost sharing for refractive surgery

Some Swiss supplementary insurance companies participate in refractive procedures such as laser eye treatment or implantation of additional lenses (PIOL)

Cost sharing through basic insurance (KVG)

Basic insurance may only participate in laser eye treatment if there is anisometropia, i.e. a difference in defective vision between the eyes, of over three diopters. Such anisometropies are very rare and although they cannot be corrected with glasses, they can be corrected with contact lenses. Therefore, in addition to anisometropia, contact lens intolerance must also be a prerequisite for reimbursement of costs.

Cost sharing through supplementary insurance

In contrast to basic insurance, supplementary insurance does not have to comply with a specified list of benefits (KVG) and may therefore contribute to the costs of refractive procedures.
We have clarified for you which additional insurance covers how many of the costs.
*These offers change from year to year, so we cannot guarantee the current validity of our research. We therefore recommend that you clarify the cost sharing yourself in detail in advance. If your insurance company requires an ophthalmological opinion to assess the cost sharing, we will be happy to help you.
